Description
One Out of Five: Disability History and Pride Project is a training that addresses disability, intersectionality, history, and allyship through the use of student voice videos, discussion guides, hands-on activities and worksheets. While developed for the state of Washington, this content can be easily adapted for a variety of contexts. It also contains a book resource guide that educators can use to develop background information or offer additional learning resources.
Recommendations
The strengths of this resource are:
- ability to stand alone
- ease of use
- options to extend learning with additional resources
- created (at least in part) by people with disabilities
- videos include first-person perspectives from people with lived experience
- training can be adapted for adult audiences and virtual settings
Users should note that:
- the definition of disability is uncited, so we recommend using the World Health Organization’s definition
- the vocabulary and history is also uncited, so we recommend adding citations as needed
